Brother (DCP-T300) Printer install difficulties

I’m trying to post this under hardware but I don’t seem to have that option.

I have managed to install the proprietary driver for DCP-T300 using the rpm command

sudo rpm -ihv --nodeps dcpt300lpr-3.0.2-0.i386.rpm

Solus recognizes the printer under Printers and says it is “Ready”, but when I go to print, a notification comes up saying it is printing and then it says “printing completed”. Uh, no. It didn’t print at all.  I have already installed gutenprint as well as cupswrapper, which recognizes the printer. I was wondering whether installing foomatic might help, as I believe that did the trick with Elementary Linux, but I can’t find it in the repositories.

If anyone can steer me in the right direction, I’d be much obliged, as I really like Solus (everything else seems to work flawlessly with a little fiddling), but, as a teacher, being able to print is pretty much a necessity.

Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.

My bad.  Foomatic is already installed — not sure why I couldn’t find it before. At any rate, it still doesn’t print. Please let me know if you have any suggestions. Thanks in advance.
