Hello,

I’ve installed Solus 3.99 with MATE Desktop on an Asus TransformerBook T101A and the Brightness Applet, the Brightness setting, etc … does not work … ( I use Mate desktop on PC with openSuSE, Devuan ASCII, CentOS & FEDORA since years and the brightness settings & modifications works OK… Then it is really an issue ).

I can only change the brightness of the display by using using command line.

Then to set the display brightness to 70%  :

  • I’ve installed xbacklight using the Software Center.
  • I ask for the display name :
~ $ /usr/bin/xrandr -q | grep " connected"

DSI-1 connected primary 1366x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 0mm x 0mm

I set the brightness of the display DSI-1 to 70% :

~ $ /usr/bin/xrandr --output DSI-1 --brightness 0.7

Not really user friendly…

What can I do to fix this issue.

Best regards

Hello,

Before having a better solution…

I’ve made 4 Scripts and 4 Launchers on the ( top ) panel  of the Desktop :
Then by simple clicking the respective icons I can dim the display respectively to 30%, 50%, 70% , 100% …

EXAMPLE FOR 30% OF BRIGHTNESS :

The script :

#bin/bash

# Reducing the Brightness of the Display using : xbacklight
# Path /home/solus_invictus/GEPlinux_Solus-Invictus_ProvScripts_/GEPlinux_BRIGHTNESS_30-100.sh

BrightnessLevel=0.3

function BrightnessSetting()
{
  /usr/bin/xrandr --output DSI-1 --brightness $BrightnessLevel
}

BrightnessSetting

The Launcher :

  • Icon :  /usr/share/icons/mate/48×48/apps/background.png
  • Type : Select Application
  • Name : DISPLAY__30-100_
  • Command : /home/solus_invictus/GEPlinux_SolusInvictus_ProvScripts_/GEPlinux_BRIGHTNESS_30-100.sh
  • Comment : Set the display brightness to 30 %

Of course I made only one Launcher and duplicate it for each other setting ( using CTRL + drag & drop ) and just modifying the number in Name, Command, Comment..

Then it is less urgent,
Waiting for your help,
Best regards
